Buddy's Pals
Fulton Schools has partnered with Buddy's Pals to bring an educational support dog into our schools. Buddy's Pals is a fully licensed and insured non-profit organization that trains dog/handler teams to work in schools and around students. The dog/handler teams go through an intensive training process. Currently, Buddy's Pals is working with many schools in the greater Lansing area. Their dog/handler teams have even been on scene at MSU to provide support after the tragic events that occurred on their campus.
Educational support dogs are quickly gaining popularity throughout the country. And research has shown that they help ease student anxiety, promote positive social interactions, assist with the development of problem-solving skills, increase self-esteem, and provide emotional support. The dogs may even be able to help staff identify students who might be experiencing emotional distress. Our dog is Bo. Bo is a 5 year old golden retriever. Bo's handler is Mrs. Reynolds. This is also a great feature of Buddy's Pals they typically try to pair local community members with schools.
We anticipate that this program will likely start slowly and expand over time as need and capacity increase. Students and staff will likely start seeing Bo sometime next week. We understand that some students/staff may have allergies or anxiety related to dogs and we certainly want to be sensitive to that. So if your child has any of these issues please contact your child's building principal to discuss those issues. Congratulations to Mr. Baker for being selected as a 2023 STEM STAR through Saginaw Valley State University.
This year he took over our middle school STEM elective. He is a star because he took on these new challenges and worked hard to create stellar programs for our students. He spent time learning about different STEM challenges and brought regional STEM kits and activities to our students. He has taken a program that is in its second year and has helped it blossom with additional resources and activities. We are very lucky to have him in our building.
Earlier this month Emilie Buscemi was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society at the Mt. Pleasant GI-TEC center. She participates in the Educational Careers Program. Congratulations Emilie!

School Counselors Celebrate During National School Counseling Week, Feb. 6–10, 2023
National School Counseling Week 2023, “School Counselors: Helping Students Dream Big,” sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), will be celebrated from Feb. 6–10, 2023, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.
We would like to recognize and thank Mrs. Heinz and Mr. Woodman for their continued work for and with our students. They make Fulton Schools a better place!

Mrs. Hubbell has been working hard to create a care closet in her room. We have a lot of items available for students in need: clothing items, hygiene items, and some food items if they need them for dinner. We even have laundry detergent and toilet paper. Students can access it in the morning or last hour.

STEM@SVSU and the GLBR East Chief Science Officers are excited to offer a FREE Teen Science Café on Thursday, March 9, 2023 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. Teen Science Café events allow teens and STEM professionals to engage in meaningful conversations and explore advances in science and technology. This event is open to any student in 6th - 12th grade in the Great Lakes Bay Region (Arenac, Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Isabella, Midland, Saginaw counties), as well as Huron and Tuscola counties.
Teen Science Cafés are always Free, Fun, and have Food! Pizza will be provided for dinner.

Students in 8th-11th Grades: It is that time of year when we are beginning the process of building the class schedule for 2023-2024. Please go into your Xello Account, update and submit your course planner selections. This must be done by February 1st, 2023 at 11:59 pm. After that time, all submissions will be locked in and cannot be changed until next year's process begins.
Due to the incoming storm and for the safety of our students, we are postponing the winterfest dance.
The dance will be held 8-11 on Saturday, February 11th.
Winterfest is tonight at the school. We are monitoring the weather situation.
In the event we need to postpone the dance, a notification will be sent by 4:00.

Just a reminder that there is an 8-12 parent meeting tonight to to ask questions about scheduling, educational development plans (EDPs), Dual Enrollment, and Career Technical Education courses (CTE). Families: There have been several missing personal items reported, mostly from the locker rooms. Please be sure to talk with your student about securing their personal items.
Per our handbook: Theft will not be tolerated, and students caught stealing will be dealt with severely.
Students should not bring valuables to school, and personal belonging should be secured in you locker. Students should not be sharing their locker combinations with others. Locker room locks are available from Mr. Walden.
