Michigan Boys State and Girls State: Do you know a junior interested in the political system? Boys State and Girls State are educational programs sponsored by the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary Departments across the country to help young men and women learn about government and how it functions. Our motto is “Learn by Doing.” The educational staff's goal is to facilitate the learning process by giving the citizens of Boys State and Girls State an opportunity to govern themselves and run their own state. Students who attend Boys State or Girls State and are descendants of a wartime-era veteran may apply for the opportunity to win $20,000 from the Samsung American Legion Scholarship. Quick Facts Who: Program is for high school juniors entering their senior year in the Fall of 2023. When: June 18-24, 2023 Where: Boys State is at Grand Valley State University-Allendale Campus. Girls State is at Michigan State University-Lansing Campus. There was a routine safety check done by Gratiot County Police this morning at approx. 9:30 with the K9 unit. Nothing was found. The officer left the building shortly before 10 AM.

Middle School Girls The Michigan Science Center is currently accepting applications for the STEMinista Project's second Statewide Cohort. The STEMinista Statewide Cohort is a virtual program that is open to girls and trans/non-binary individuals that are in middle school (Grades 6-8) and are interested in STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Through this virtual program, STEMinistas will work with STEMinista Mentors, who are professionals from our STEMinista Role Model database that are currently working in STEM fields, to create their very own STEM Show. Congratulations to our High School Language Arts Team for coming in 4th (out of 8 teams) at their first MSAC competition. With only 3 students up against more experienced teams, that is a great showing. Congratulations Emma, Ella, and Emilie!

WEEK 3 Esports Recap Hemlock vs. Fulton White Fulton White- Fulton White has looked solid in their first two match ups taking the win over their sister team Fulton Blue in week one. Week three proved to be a big match for them to tally another mark in the win column. Payton Reynolds came up huge for his team recording an astounding 13 stacks taken with only 2 stocks lost! Payton led his team to a week three victory giving his team a positive win loss record going into week four of the season. Fulton Blue vs. Alma Fulton Blue- Fulton Blue looked to improve their record against Alma High School. Alma has looked strong in their first few weeks but Fulton Blue looked ready to rally together and earn a win for their team. Darrin Abrams came ready to play locking in Little Mac and taking an impressive 9 stocks and only losing 6. Fulton Blue eventually lost their week three match up falling to 0-3 on the season.

Our ESports had a good week last week and compete again tomorrow. Week 2 Recap Fulton White- Fulton White was 1-0 heading into their second match up of the season. Kaden Bensinger proved to be a fierce competitor taking 10 stocks away from Merrill and keeping the game close! Eventually the Merrill vandals stole the game after a well played effort from Fulton White. Fulton White moves to 1-1 on the season and will look to bounce back in week three. Fulton Blue- Fulton looked poised to take on Shepherd in their week two match up. Elijah Shafer came out swinging on Mr. Game and Watch showing off his skills! Elijah took 5 stocks off of his opponents while Darrin Abrams chipped in two stocks taken. Fulton looked strong in their week two match up but eventually fell to the blue jays of shepherd, moving their record to 0-2 on the season.

Educational Development Plans (EDPs) are living documents developed by all students to identify career goals and related action plans in alignment with their changing interest and abilities. EDPs help students think about long-term education and career plans. This will also be part of students planning for the courses for next school year, which happens in the spring. We are fortunate to work with the Gratiot-Isabella RESD to develop these plans in a program called Xello.
